Libby Petrella is a well-respected Australian radio and television presenter with over a decade of experience in the media and entertainment industry.
She completed a year of formal training to receive her Certification in Screen and Media. Libby has also trained with legendary Australian television director Richard Sarell whose career includes many popular Australian television shows like A Country Practice, All Saints, Blue Heelers, Home and Away, Neighbours and Water Rats.
Libby further decided to focus on professional voice training with highly regarded voice over artist John Higginson. Learning from his 20 years of technical and performance knowledge, Libby has confidently added ‘voice over artist’ to her creative accomplishments.
Her trademark relaxed interviewing style and together with her exuberant personality, Libby has endeared herself to a wide radio and television audiences.
A passionate animal advocate, Libby recalls as a child her father adopting their family pets from the local pound; rescuing them from a dreadful fate. Her genuine love of animals is deeply embedded in her heart and soul, a quality she inherited from her father, inspiring a lifelong devotion to the animal cause.
Her love of dogs would lead to a career-changing interview for a popular TV show. The Executive Producer was impressed with her natural poise and composure on camera. Libby became the first Rover Reporter and original cast member of the loveable pet show Yappy Hour TV. Later she would further prove herself as a talented segment producer becoming a valuable asset to the production team.
Yappy Hour TV was the perfect showcase to launch Libby as an exciting new name in the industry. Opportunities became available with commercial Melbourne radio station 3MP 1377AM inviting Libby to share her love of pets on the airwaves by producing and hosting her own pet segment ‘Our Four-Legged Friends’. The audience response was overwhelmingly positive, and as a result, Libby added the ‘That’s Entertainment’ segment to her repertoire, combining her two great passions for animals and show business.
Libby was then approached by the producer at Channel 31 to film a pilot episode for Dog Daze, an entertaining canine quiz show. As part of this new television show, Libby was invited to participate live on stage as an expert panellist at the Dog Lovers Show in Melbourne, a major event attracting over 40,000 canine lovers every year which left her feeling privileged to have graced the same stage as well-respected celebrity veterinarians Dr Harry Cooper OAM and Dr Chris Brown.
Libby now hosts a two-hour lifestyle program the ever-popular Morning Magazine show for Melbourne local station 98.9 North West FM.
Over the years Libby has been privileged to interview an array of special guests including legendary TV and radio personality George Donikian, The Living Room host Barry Du Bois, Australian couture designer Jason Grech, The Voice finalist James Cupples and Channel Ten Healthy Homes Australia presenters Walt Collins and Dani Wales.
Libby attracted the interest of Foxtel producers recognising her potential and she was offered a guest presenting role on their long-running program GRTV Australia. This included interviewing iconic Australian performer Tony Pantano about his encounters with Tony Bennett, to her hilarious live broadcast with comedy troupe Sooshi Mango at the Carlton Italian Festa in Melbourne a popular cultural event.
Amongst her many talents, Libby Petrella is in demand as a versatile voice over artist and an accomplished MC, hosting entertainment and charity events.
She has now established her own production company, Three Dogs and a Human which has successfully filmed live at the annual Dog Lovers Show. With this company, Libby is currently producing a brand new Australian lifestyle show featuring an assortment of undiscovered talent.
Libby believes the only time you should look back is to see how far you’ve come. She continues to welcome new opportunities for herself to shine in the Australian Media landscape.
Libby Petrella is passionate about the vitally important work of the national Bully Zero Australia Foundation.
She became involved with the charity as an official Ambassador in 2016, motivated to inspire change by her personal experience with bullying and its effects. Bully Zero is the only bullying prevention organisation in Australia that delivers face-to-face programs by qualified teachers.
Libby joins fellow Ambassadors including entertainer Rhonda Burchmore, celebrity chef George Calombaris and Essendon footballer Cale Hooker, in the crusade against bullying.
In 2016 Libby Petrella was one of twelve women Australia-wide invited to join The Powerful Women group due to her leadership in both media and from her role as a Bully Zero Ambassador.
As a woman in the competitive media and entertainment industry, Libby has a special interest in empowering older women to overcome any obstacles to their success.
Proud to be part of this diverse group of smart, intelligent professionals, Libby shared her experience of bullying to help empower women and promote positive change in attitudes towards women in society and the workplace.
